Golden Boy Promotions sets a record at the Save Mart Center, Live Results
Fresno, CA - Golden Boy Promotions brings a double-header show Saturday April 27, 2024 at the Save Mart Center. The night features 7 bouts with 2 highly anticipated fights from Vergirl Ortiz Jr. and Avenal’s Jose Ramirez.
Bout 1 feature Alejandro Robles vs. Figo Ramirez. Ramirez out the pressure on early. Robles having a hard time finding his distance. Heading into the third, Robles visabily tired was kept on his back foot, unable to use the head movement he initially had. Round 3 TKO from Figo Ramirez.
Bout 2 Lua vs Solis. Madera Native Bryan Lua with SOA Boxing entered the ring looking ot make a statement in front of his home crowd. What started with a flurry and exchanges ended in round 1 , with stronger, sharper punches landing from Lua. Round 1 Knockout victory for Byan Lua moving him to 9-0 (4KOs)
Bout 3 Jorge Marron Jr takes on Raul Curiel. Curiel walked into the ring undefeated and a WBC Mexican Olympian. “Cougar” Raul Curiel put the pressure on early, landing a heavy shot to the liver of Marron Jr. Marron stands to continue the fight only to have Curiel land yet another body shot finally ending the fight in round one.
Bout 4 and one we have all been excited to see, out walks Marlen Esparza vs. Gabriela Alaniz as they meet for a second time. Last fight was for the WBO FlyweightTitle, but for the rematch unfortunately, Esparza came in 3 lbs overweight leave Alaniz the only fighter who can capture the 4 Flyweight world titles with a win. The weight miss showing early in the fight as Esparza walks back to her corner after round 2 already showing signs of bein tired.=. Heading in to round 10, esparza showing heart but is the pressure of Alaniz too much? Ultimately the judges seen it split with Alaniz coming out with the win to become the WBA, WBC,WBO and Ring world Champion. Gabriela Celeste Alaniz said, “The secret to winning against her was just knowing her.”
BOUT 5 , Rick Mirigians “Fight of the night” contender out walks Oscar Duarte and Joseph Diaz Jr. In this 10-rounder we see both men feeling each other out for the first two rounds. We then see Duarte walk out in round three with a different demeanor. Duarte landing heavy blows, at one point stunning Diaz Jr. but was saved by the bell. Joseph Diaz Jr. came out eith some counter of his own but the strength from Duarte ultimately being the decising factor of this fight. Referee stepped in to wave off the fight in round . An action packed fight with moments on the edge of our seats, but there is one more fight on this card that truly had the crowd going.
Bout 6 Vergil Ortiz jr. Takes on Thomas Dulorme . Ortiz Jr puts the pressure on early and at 2:39 in Round 1 a vicious shot to the body crumbles Dulorme to the ground and the fight closes via Knockout. When Asked Vergil Ortiz Jr said he will see us in august for his next bout vs. Australia’s Tim Tszyu (21-1)
For the final bout of the night, the hometown kid Jose Ramirez takes on the hungry Rances Barthelemy. Most believed that Ramirez would have a smooth day at the office but the heavy hooks from Barthelemy were hurting Ramirez early. Half way into the 12 round main event, Jose Ramirez made the necessary adjustments, keeping Barthelemy on the back foot or against the ropes. The heart of Avenal’s Jose Ramirez was celebrated by the home crowd as the Save Mart Center went up in a roar as the 12th round came to an end, both men exchanging punches. Jose Ramirez defeats Rances Barthelemy via Unanimous decision. Ramirez looks for a possible world title fight after this one and Oscar De La Hoya agrees.
