Team UFC Gym Rocklin goes 5-1 at the US Open Muay Thai Championships in Arizona

UFC Gym Rocklin in Rocklin,Ca is home to some of California’s top amateur prospects in Muay Thai, coached by Ezra Regan and Art Leyva.

Alberto Montano, Julian Hough, Tyler Lloyd and Marq-Encio Timoteo and Coaches Regan and Leyva began the long drive to Arizona in hopes to be one of the top teams of the tournament, bringing home gold and good experiences.

Alberto “El Leon” Montano went into the tournament undefeated as an amateur in his weight division. As the fight began, Montano established the low kick early, opening up the right hook as his opponent lost his base throughout the fight. A dominant “no questions asked” victory as El Leon became the U.S Open champion in the heavyweight division.

Teen fighter, Julian Hough, came into one of the toughest bouts of the evening. Looking to have has a strong start with securing round 1, the momentum swayed as Hough’s opponent came out aggressive in round 2. His Opponent immediately looking to initiate some clench work which would become the ultimate mistake as Hough took action in the clench. Hough cutting his opponent, forcing to official to stop the fight and a win for Hough and UFC Gym Rocklin.

Tyler Lloyd, one of the fighters who was able to have two bouts this tournament, went into his first fight looking to make a statement, ending it in round #2 . Lloyd heading to the finals winning 2 rounds to win to secure his title in the 130 - 135lb division.

In the 115-120lb division, the few divisions with 4 opponents, Marq-Encio “ENCHO” Timoteo came out with a silver medal. In the Semifinals, Timoteo took 2 rounds to win and secure his spot in the finals. A hard fought 3 round fight ultimately led to a 2 round loss and Silver medal win for Timoteo. With all that being said, coach Ezra Regan took to instagram to name “encho” the fighter of the tournament.

UFC Gym Rocklin was ranked #6 out of the Top 10 schools of the tournament. Being one of the only schools in the top 6 with only 4 fighters.

It shows the hard work thats being down in the “Team Alpha Muay Thai” area of UFC Gym Rocklin. A huge congratulations to these athletes as they traveled and performed this past weekend in Arizona.
